Our Second Grade Community
Second grade is a year of gaining independence. Students transition from learning to read to reading to learn. During writing, students write different types of passages and for various types of audiences. Also, students learn to communicate their math reasoning and self-select individual math strategies to gain a better understanding of math concepts.
A main focus in second grade is to focus on community throughout the year. We begin the year recognizing our own classroom communities and celebrating each student’s unique talents and interests. Second grade is a year for recognizing the benefits of working collaboratively with others and learning from others. Not only is second grade a year of independence, but a year of social, emotional and academic growth.
