What is “ACP”?
On June 30, 2013, the Wisconsin legislature passed Act 20, Wisconsin Statute 115.28(59), which requires DPI to ensure that, beginning in the 2017-18 school year, every school board is providing Academic and Career Planning services to pupils enrolled in grades 6 to 12 in their school district. These changes are part of a nation-wide movement to focus more attention on career planning, workforce readiness and the variety of pathways to career readiness & training. Additional information on ACP requirements can be found on the DPI website.
While ACP activities by 12th grade will have included all four quadrants of “Know”, “Explore”, “Plan” and “Go”, middle school activities focus on interest investigation, goal-setting skills and career exploration. The 8th Grade year also includes high school planning activities.
