Dear Parents/Guardians,
Among the things that make the Fox Point – Bayside School District so special is the remarkable level of parent engagement in our schools. Whether it is volunteering in the classroom or chaperoning a class trip, parent and grandparent participation helps make our schools the special places that they are.
With that in mind, as we prepare to begin another school year, we would like you to be aware of a newly implemented volunteer policy. In keeping with current best practices related to school safety, starting immediately, all volunteers must submit a simple document to the school and agree to a background check before volunteering in the classrooms. This policy applies to all volunteers, including those who chaperone class trips.
The Fox Point – Bayside volunteer policy, which was approved by the school board in November 2015 to be implemented this school year, is similar to many other districts in the area and is consistent with student safety best practices.
I would like to note that it certainly does feel awkward to ask parents who have volunteered hundreds of hours in previous school years to submit paperwork and agree to a background check. However, it is important that we implement this policy across the board in an effort to continue ensuring that our children are safe—both now and in the future.
The policy and background information are included below. If you have any questions, please contact me. In the meantime, thank you in advance for volunteering in our schools this year and for helping ensure the safety of our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeff Dellutri
Superintendent
