2020-21 Technology Updates
Stormonth Elementary:
In light of the uncertainties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Stormonth Elementary will adjust our chromebook distribution to better respond to virtual and blended learning happening both within and outside of the classroom. This is an opportune time to reassess our instructional technology needs to be able to adapt to dynamic learning environments. Therefore, the following deployment and account changes will happen during the 2020-2021 school year.
|
Grades 1st- 2nd: 1:1 “Flexible Model” Chromebook Distribution
-
All students in grades 1st and 2nd will be assigned an individual chromebook which they will use for all their years at Stormonth.
-
1st grade students will be assigned a new chromebook which they will keep until the end of 4th grade.
-
2nd grade students will keep their assigned chromebook for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade.
-
All 1st and 2nd grade classrooms will be equipped with two new charging towers which have built in charging cords.
-
While in school is being held with face-to-face instruction (in the building), students will charge their assigned device in the new charging towers.
-
Students will also have an assigned “stay in case” Chromebook case with a charger which will be stored in the classroom teachers room.
-
The case will be used if students need to quickly transition into virtual learning for an extended period of time or if they need their device for home use. With the cases in the classroom teachers rooms, they can quickly adapt to any changes by simply putting the students chromebook in the case. There is no need to unwire any carts.
-
The charger must stay with the case assigned to the specific student.
-
Each student (grades 1-4) will use their assigned charger and cord for all the years they are at Stormonth Elementary. Each student will use their assigned case for all their years at Fox Point-Bayside, until 8th grade.
-
All student devices (grades 1-4) will have an additional TRA Chromecare Accidental Insurance student fee which will cover their years assigned to the device.
-
All students in grades 1st- 2nd will be assigned an individual Google account.
-
1st and 2nd grade students have access to Gmail, restricted to sending and receiving emails only within foxbay.org.
-
LMS (Learning Management System)- Google Classroom for 2nd grade, Seesaw for 1st grade
Grades K4-K5: 2:1 “In-School” Chromebook Distribution, Parent Home Device Requests
-
Students in grades K4- K5 will continue to share touchscreen chromebook carts in the classroom. Due to their developmental needs, it is not appropriate to assign each individual student with a device which they will use regularly.
-
If we need to quickly adjust to a virtual learning environment, parents can request a student chromebook to be used for home use during that time.
-
Parents who elect for virtual only instruction for K4-K5, will have the opportunity to request a school issued non-touch chromebook.
-
Students in grades K4- K5 will each be assigned an individual Google account, which will not have Gmail access. If the student elects virtual instruction only, parents will receive an email with their child’s Google login information.
-
LMS (Learning Mangement System)- Seesaw for K4 and K5

Bayside Middle School:
While Bayside Middle School has implemented a 1:1 in-school deployment since 2017, we will be moving to a full "Take home" model in the 2020-21 school year. While this addresses both the needs presented from COVID-19, this also moves our district forward in supporting blended learning and 21st century skills for the future.
Bayside Middle School Grades 5th-8th: 1:1 “Take Home” Chromebook Distribution
-
Students are individually assigned a new chromebook and charger in 5th grade which will go home each night to be charged and returned to school for use during the day.
-
Students will continue to use their chromebook case assigned at Stormonth. If they need a new case due to loss or damage, one will be available for purchase.
-
All student devices (grades 5-8) will have an additional TRA Chromecare Accidental Insurance student fee which will cover their years assigned to the device. This does not cover intentional damage or loss of the device, charger, or cord.
-
Loaner chromebooks are available for check out via the BMS LMC to use while student devices are out for repair. Students continue to use their assigned case with the loaner chromebook.
-
Google Classroom is the LMS (Learning Management System) for all grades 2-8
-
Infinite Campus is used for grading and reports
