Red Ribbon Week
Good morning Bayside. This is Sophie with some words of wisdom.
Saying “no” to drugs and alcohol isn’t always easy, even when we know it’s what we should say. It can take real courage. Someone wise once said that courage is “the ability to do what is right, even when there is a lot of pressure to do what is wrong.”
But peer pressure isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes others pressure us to do what’s right. That’s called encouragement. When we encourage others, we give them courage. Everyone needs a wise encourager, someone to help him or her say no to something that is not good for them.
Monday is the last day of Red Ribbon Week. This weekend, ask someone who encourages you what it takes to say no to drugs and alcohol. That might be a parent, teacher, counselor or faith leader.
Remember it’s not always easy to “just say no”. Will you be courageous enough to say no when the time comes?
With something to think about, this is Sophie. Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours.
7th & 8th Grade Friday Specials
Listen up 7th & 8th graders: It is a Monday/Wednesday week for your Friday specials. Please take a look at your schedule and report to your specials accordingly.
United Nations Day
Today, Bayside Middle School wants to recognize the upcoming 70th Anniversary year of the United Nations on its founding day. The goals of the U.N. are:
- To keep peace throughout the world;
- To develop friendly relations among nations;
- To help nations work together to improve the lives of poor people, to conquer hunger, disease and illiteracy, and to encourage respect for each other’s rights and freedoms;
- To be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations to achieve these goals.
In recognition of the efforts of the United Nations, Bayside Student Council is flying the United Nations flag outside our school and we have posted information about the U.N. on the Student Council bulletin board outside the cafeteria. We hope you’ll take a look.
