Director of Teaching, Learning and Special Programs
The office of Teaching, Learning and Special Programs is charged with the development of curriculum, the assessment of student learning, and the support of effective instruction throughout the district for all students. Curriculum defines what we want students to know and be able to do. It addresses content as well as skills and attitudes that we want students to develop by the time they leave a course, a grade level, or our K-8 educational program.
Teaching focuses on guiding students to successfully address the standards and the benchmarks. The emphasis in the district is 21st century skill development using research-based best practices.
Learning emphasizes what students know and are independently able to do successfully.
Assessment emphasizes providing different ways for students to demonstrate mastery. Assessment results drive teaching and learning.
Special Programs focuses on the individual needs of students with disabilities, English Language Learners (ELL), gifted/talented students, and students who are in need of academic supports. You can find more information on the "Support Services" page.
